The New Cities Initiative seeks to educate students, the public, and our selves about the complex subject of aging as it is experienced in our culture and ways in which that experience can be improved. A series of speakers on aging has led us far and wide among the academic disciplines. Our quest has focused our attention on aging in various cultures as depicted in film, and it has caused us to imagine how the aging experience can be enhanced through better-designed homes and communities.
Our horizons have broadened. Our perspectives have changed. We see aging in new ways and envision an intergenerational community that integrates the aged with younger generations to the benefit of all.
